This is the post card view from our balcony at the Park Hotel several years ago. Since then much has changed about the hotel. Today, the luxurious Grand Park Hotel sits where the Park Hotel once proudly stood. Based on everything we know about the new hotel it promises to be a magnificent tourist destination for many years to come. This being said, a number of features about the area undoubtedly remain the same. These include the breathtaking view from the hotel of the idyllic old town of Rovinj, St. Euphemia Basilica, St. Katarina Island, the marina, as well as the area’s charm and laid-back character of the local culture. We found the ambiances very infectious. We made the short walk to Old Town almost daily, enjoying the sidewalk wine cafes and colorful boutiques along the way. At night we would either walk to our favorite restaurants near Old Town or dine in the hotel’s Wine Gourmet Restaurant. Regardless of the restaurant, we found the cuisine delicious and reasonably priced. One afternoon, we even walked to the bus station Old Town where we hopped a bus for a short ride to the nearby City of Pula to see the Roman Amphitheatre and other ancient ruins. When we originally planned our trip from Venice, Italy to Rovinj, we didn’t quite know what to expect, but within a very short time we realized we had fortuitously stumbled upon a “destination jackpot.” We can hardly wait to visit Croatia again, including the Grand Park Hotel.
