Our evening at the Jazz Playhouse was a top highlight during our recent 5-day getaway to New Orleans. It was our first time visiting the city. We had a fantastic time. The jazz vocalist performing the evening we attended was Germaine Bazzle. While we enjoy jazz, we are not ardent followers of this gendre. But her show and performance was both exceptional and memorable. We hoped to hear distinctive and soulful jazz and we were not disappointed. Her performance more than exceeded our expectations. Afterwards, we googled her name and found a phrase describing her talents as “under-recognized nationally.” We would add she is a “jazz treasure.” Additionally, we can cannot say enough about the venue. It’s centrally located in the French Quarter on Bourbon Street in the Royal Sonesta Hotel. The playhouse is small and intimate. Not a bad seat in the house. The hostesses are friendly and personable, and service is first class. Also, the food is excellent and reasonably priced. Finally, except for a limited number of premium seats close to the stage, general admission is free. We were admitted free and literally sat no more than 10 feet from the stage. Again, there are no bad seats. All they ask is for patrons to purchase a beverage for each performance set, which is generally 1-hour. Patrons are not obligated to stay for the full performance and can depart any time. We are excited we found a top entertainment site in the French Quarter that is worth every penny we spent. It’s the Jazz Playhouse. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
